Why did vegetarian Abel tend a "flock" on a tropical earth?
by M.J. in.
abel tended a "flock", which could have included sheep, goats, and/or small cattle according to the strongs word usage.. yet people weren't supposed to eat meat until god gave the go-ahead to noah, says the wts.. the earth was totally warm before the flood according to the wts, so tending sheep just for its wool would seem a little pointless.. it seems as if abel would have needed to live off of cain's crops, while he spent all his time hanging out with a pretty much useless flock.
no wonder cain was a bit surly.. what do you think?

SCIENCE versus NEW LIGHT
by Terry inhow do scientific advances compare with the watchtower's new light growing brighter and brighter?
science measures, quantifies, tests and predicts.
science asks skeptical questions and provides provisional answers which are presented for peer review.

and the science does lag the rest of the population somewhat - could have something to do with building on those incorrect reports

New Light IS Science - it's just not published without intellectual dishonesty.
They make the best hypothesis they know how (albeit absurd subjectivity) - then they're wrong, and they change.
It's just that they don't include the "being wrong" part in the reports they deliver.

"Nervous Breakdowns"
by scout575 in"i live in a small town, total area pop around 80,000. i can name so many priests throughout my lifetime that left either because they got married, became indicated in sexual abuse, had nervous breakdowns or just got fed up with rome and the diocese.
parishes are combining due to lack of attendance, schools are closing and they keep praying for f****** vocations!!!!
good luck!

It's not my experience. Who are the 'christians' that you continually collectively refer to ?
Getting married to a member of another church, yes. For getting "fed up with the church" and being vocal about it, yes. For having nervous break down and seeking medical or professional psychological attention, yes. For being rumoured to be an abuser, yes.
Which church is this ?

If the wrath of God rested with you, what do you imagine that means ?

This is what this NT writer thought the 'wrath of God' would mean for those who, "know not God."
.....but know something else I suppose.
I believe that for those who see it, the punishment is severe, as I have written above.
When you say "This is what this NT writer thought....." what do you suppose is 'implied' ?

Oh, Schizm! (Daniel 11:35)
by AuldSoul inschizm: here's something for you to consider, which you will no doubt disagree with, but that shows that the wts will refine its thinking on these issues:
and some of those having insight will be made to stumble, in order to do a refining work because of them and to do a cleansing and to do a whitening, until the time of [the] end; because it is yet for the time appointed.
-- daniel 11:35 .

Schizm, you may need to think your original statements through again.....
Obviously the verse has to apply to some religion that claims to be "Christian". So which "Christian" religion would it be? First off, it couldn't refer to what is commonly referred to as "Christendom", a religion that's split up into a multitude of denominations.
As a jw you may be able to build on this, but other people just don't really get it - indeed they can't - independent thinking commonly includes critical appraisals of statements before moving on and building on it in ones own mind, quite unlike jwism.

If you are a jw thinking about joining a church, consider that - getting married, having nervous breakdowns, getting fed up with the church, or being 'indicated' in abuse, won't result in shunning, your family abandoning you, scorn, labelling and otherwise unloving behaviour. Consider carefully that as a jw these things will be done to you if you become suspected of "thinking the wrong way".
